On Display is set in the mid-1990s. The settings are two minimalistic living rooms; a simple bedroom; the exterior of a converted garage or small home with a 2nd floor window; the interior of a frame store; the interior of an art gallery; a doorway in a city street.

On Display can be comfortably performed with eight actors with doubling: four women and four men. With creative costuming, it can be performed with seven actors: four women and three men. It has twenty-two speaking roles, along with a set of recorded voices, and opportunities for non-speaking extras. The script details doubling possibilities for the actors.

Each artwork in On Display is either an original digital work or a digital alteration of a painting that has no copyright restrictions due to its age. The concepts are by Marlena Merrin, realized through the talents of artist Jennifer Fuchel.
