Overview
On Display is a two-act drama that explores what we display, what we conceal, and how art can shift one's world. Though a drama, On Display is laced with humor, romance, and thought-provoking artwork.
Synopsis
Can art change lives? Painter Aurelia Adjoran believes so. She seeks to someday produce art that will make a difference in the world. Meanwhile, she ekes out a living painting still lifes, and working in a shop alongside her closeted best friend, Melinda.
Aurelia's life changes dramatically after she protests her church’s new anti-gay policy by creating and publicly displaying a painting showing two women kissing.
Forbidden Love
When that painting is violently vandalized, Aurelia is thrust into the spotlight of a television news story, and then propelled into a new life in New York City, with an important art dealer guiding her in creating (and selling) the socially conscious art she's been envisioning.
Melinda is furious with Aurelia for breaking a girlhood promise by leaving, but the beautiful, aloof playboy Aurelia has lusted after in vain suddenly finds Aurelia and her new artworks quite attractive.
Does he love her or her growing fame? He claims to have changed through psychedelics, but his smooth manipulations cause rough patches between them. She resents being shaped into something she is not—even if it’s for her benefit.
How much will Aurelia change herself—and her art—to achieve her goals? And will putting herself literally on display make a difference to the renowned foundation that could fund her dream project?
